Egg Tempera – Workshop in February
Artist Kristiina Sario is running two egg tempera workshops at Taidetehdas in February. All adults are welcome to enrol. During the three-hour workshop, participants will learn how to prepare egg tempera paint and the basic principles of the technique. All painting materials are provided, so there is no need to bring anything apart from your own refreshments. Those who wish may also bring their own watercolour brushes and a sketchbook.
Egg tempera is a traditional painting technique in which pigments are mixed with egg yolk as a binder. It was widely used before oil painting became prevalent in Europe. For example, The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli was painted in tempera in the 15th century. Orthodox icon painting is another excellent example of the egg tempera technique, with roots stretching back to Byzantium around the 5th century.
Please note:
Due to the materials used, children are unfortunately unable to take part in the workshop independently. Participants will be working with powdered pigments, which can easily become airborne. You are welcome to bring a face mask if you wish.
The workshop is limited to 20 participants.
Participation fee: €5
The participation fee can be paid at the Porvoo Art Hall shop. Online payment via the City of Porvoo’s web shop will be available shortly. The link will be added to the event page as soon as it is active.
