In art history, mental health, developmental disorders, and mental deviations are often associated with the myth of genius, alienation, and the ability to see things differently. Deviations from the norm are regarded as values that carry real power and originality, something that holds the deep layers of humanity. It is thought that what surpasses the normal is more genuine, a reality that people in their daily routines do not see. Our exhibition explores the interface between the norm and what lies beyond normativity.
At the same time, the world is adopting increasingly hardened value principles.
The exhibition idea is based on brotherhood, kinship, and differences. Jukka, Tarmo, and Paavo are professional artists active in contemporary art. Matti suffers from schizophrenia, and Antti from Lowe’s syndrome; they continuously create visual art and hold exhibitions, but due to their illnesses, they remain on the margins. Antti is Jukka’s brother, and Matti is the brother of Tarmo and Paavo.
