Publication criteria and usage instructions for the hobby announcements

Principles and functions of the hobby page

Criteria for publication of hobby announcements

The Vitality Committee accepted the following hobby publication criteria at its meeting on March 18, 2025:

  • The organiser of the hobby must offer activities in Porvoo.
  • The hobby announcement must be submitted using an electronic form by the stated deadline. If additional information or material is requested from the declarant, these must be submitted before the announcement may be published.
  • No hobbies or content are published on the City of Porvoo’s hobby page that are in contradiction with Finnish laws or Porvoo City Strategy or well-being plan or contrary to good practice.
  • Hobbies or content that are discriminatory to a group of people or groups of people are not published on the hobby page.
  • Single hobby sessions or one-off events are not published on the hobby page.

The City of Porvoo reserves the right to edit, remove or not publish announcements that are in contradiction to the publication criteria, and outdated data may be deleted without notice.

Registering a hobby

You can register a hobby on the list using the registration form, which is open annually in spring. In 2025, you can register your hobbies until 11 April at 4:00 pm.

In principle, one organisation can declare one hobby. However, if you offer several different hobbies, you can register them separately if there is a separate website for each hobby. For example, a sports club with several independent sports sections can register the different sports as separate hobbies.

No personal registration is required to submit a hobby announcement, but the contact details of the person filling the form are required, to obtain any additional information. The contact details are automatically deleted when the hobby is published.

Review and publication of the hobby announcements

Hobby announcements submitted via the registration form are transferred to the city’s leisure services staff for review and completion. Activity reports submitted via the reporting form are transferred to the city’s leisure services staff for review and completion. They check that the hobby announcement meets the publication criteria and that the information has been filled in according to the instructions of the registration form. The reviewer can also correct or complete the information, for example, add an automatic translation if language versions are missing. The City of Porvoo is not responsible for the accuracy of automatic translations. If the hobby announcement complies with the publication criteria, it will be published on the hobby page.

Editing a hobby announcement

After publication, an email is sent to the person who registered the hobby including a link to edit the information. After editing, the activity report does not show on the hobby page until the announcement has been reviewed and republished.

Annual check of the hobby announcement

To keep the hobby page up to date, hobby providers must annually review and re-publish the hobby announcement, either via the edit link or by submitting a new announcement. Outdated hobby descriptions are removed annually.

Instructions and tips for hobby organisers for filling out the form

Hobby title

What hobby are you offering? Do not fill in the name of the organisation or club here, but the hobby being offered. For example: ‘Football’, ‘Sailing and boating’, ‘Weaving’, ‘Visual arts’, or ‘Pensioner activity and community’.

Content / Hobby description

  • Mention at the beginning the name of the association, club, or organisation offering the hobby.
  • Write a short and timeless introduction to the offered hobby. What kind of activities do you offer and for whom?
  • A few lines of text will be visible, and the rest of the introduction can be displayed by pressing the Show more button.
  • The description does not need to include all the details of the hobby or the organisation, but the purpose is to move from the link to learn more about your activities on your own website.
  • Do not write contact details in the description.

Translations to Finnish, Swedish and English are required

Translate the activity title and description also into Swedish and English. Fill in the translations even if the activity is not offered in these languages. If translations are missing, an automatic translation will be added during the review and publication phase. The City of Porvoo is not responsible for the accuracy of the translation.

Image

  • Use a landscape image. The image you upload will be cropped to fit the image space, which has an aspect ratio of 16:9. Allowed file types are jpg and png, and the maximum file size is 3 megabytes. We recommend using an image with at least 600 x 338 px resolution.
  • Do not use only a logo. Most logos fit poorly in the image space, causing part of the logo to be cut off. A more attractive option is a photograph that conveys the atmosphere of your activity.
  • Do not use text on the image. The logo can be on top of the image.

The City of Porvoo does not edit images to fit the image space. The City of Porvoo has the right to remove images that do not comply with the guidelines.

  • Seniors: Activities that specifically consider those over 65 years old.
  • Special groups: Activities adapted for individuals who, due to disability, illness, or other reduced functional capacity or social situation, find it difficult to participate in generally available hobbies.
