Samuli Heimonen | Paintings27.6.-6.9.2026
Samuli Heimonen’s exhibition at Porvoo Art Hall brings together works from recent years, including large paintings that have been shown only once before.
The exhibition has no single overarching theme — animals, nature and landscape form a common undercurrent running through the works. Heimonen is drawn to the essence, presence and authenticity of animals: in his portrait-like paintings he seeks to capture a quality of the animal that can be encountered and understood. In the exhibition, animals are also seen as part of the landscape, and these landscapes ultimately become maps and diagrams that attempt to make sense of how the world works and where our place within it lies.
Samuli Heimonen (b. 1975) is a visual artist living and working in Jyväskylä and a former resident of Porvoo Artists’ House, who was named Young Artist of the Year in 2008.
