I have had the opportunity to get educated and develop my skills. I want my work to create a smooth everyday life. When cleaning is done well, the work goes largely unnoticed!
I am a Cleaning Services Adviser at Porvoo Food and Cleaning Services. My work consists of guiding new employees and trainees, as well as old employees changing assignments.
I coach our personnel and develop our ways of working, for example, smarter use of time, how and when work is done, and with what tools and techniques. When needed, I’m in the kitchen providing guidance or standing in for others. I’m often involved in development projects, for example, working on cleaning time estimates and updating the kitchen cleaning programme.
I’ve been working for the City of Porvoo for over 10 years. During this time, I have had the opportunity to get educated and develop my skills. I have attended facility management training and supervisor training, and in December 2023 I graduated with a specialist degree in cleaning and property services.
I want my work to create a smooth everyday life. When cleaning is done well, the work goes largely unnoticed! I live in the moment and find joy in every little success, for example, meeting a new person and guiding them in their work.
Not everyone can clean, doing it for a living requires professionalism. You need to know the materials. You need to know which substances are suitable, which ones cause damage, and how to dose and use cleaning chemicals. It’s all chemistry and physics. You need to know how to find information. Cleaning is very technical in terms of equipment and materials. That’s the professionalism.
In my work, I also get to support the language learning of foreign-language workers. I guide them in Finnish, using plain language, because learning Finnish also supports them in their free time. We also collaborate with Careeria to support language learning.
