Fog is a space that is never far away,
that creeps up behind you and blows damp air on the back of your neck.
Fog is a heavy weariness, a dense emptiness
It is daynights and nightdays
It is loose threads and fragments
When the fog rolls in, it is best to lie down and close your eyes. In the thickest fog, there is no creativity.
But in moments of rest, a sense of wonder may begin to well up: where did the world slip away to, and all the thoughts, and time?
Images, shapes and words can come creeping through sleep and daydreams.
Clouds and creatures, tangles and silver glitter, lost keys and misty light, a thirsty dragon bird begging for water.
Corinna Helenelund’s new solo exhibition The Fog explores feelings and questions relating to fog, both as a sensory phenomenon and as a state of mind. The exhibition features a new textile sculpture series that Helenelund has been working on during 2025 and 2026. In connection with the exhibition, a short film by Jyri Hakala about Corinna Helenelund and the creative work process behind the art works is also displayed.
During the exhibition, Porvoo Art Hall’s Corner will become an open workshop where visitors can take part in community art related to the exhibition’s themes. Also in October, Children’s Art Hall will be back, this time based on the themes of Helenelund’s exhibition.
About the artist
Corinna Helenelund is an artist who grew up in Porvoo and is now based in Helsinki. She works primarily with sculpture and installation using textile materials. A starting point for her work is the intersection between the inner and outer worlds: how inner feelings and moods influence our experience of the world around us, and, conversely, how our surroundings affect our well-being. Working with her hands, and letting her hands think, is an important part of her creative work process.
Helenelund studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. Her work has been shown in solo and duo exhibitions at venues including Sinne, the HAM Gallery and Sculptor in Helsinki, the Finnish Institute in Stockholm and das weisse haus in Vienna, as well as in group exhibitions at venues including the Oulu Art Museum, Milieu in Bern, WAM in Turku, Kunstverein Göttingen, Norrköping Art Museum, EKKM in Tallinn and The Community in Paris.
Exhibition has received funding from the Finnish Heritage Agency and the artist’s work has been supported by Svenska Kulturfonden, Arts Promotion Center Finland and Greta och Alfred Runebergs stiftelse.
