Through my work, I want to bring cleanliness and joy. The work is not too hard when you have enough time reserved for it, and there’s a good system and routine.
I am a custodian with the Porvoo Food and Cleaning Services. My job involves cleaning at the school Hinthaaran koulu and helping with the dishes at the school canteen. As part of the 3-person kitchen and cleaning staff at our school, we also cover for each other and help each other with various tasks.
I also work with the teachers and students at the school. The teachers are friendly, and they gave me support and advice when I first came to the new school. The kids at the school are wonderful. They seem to trust in the quality of my work as they “swim” along the floors in their play! The youngest kids try to get me to play hide-and-seek. We have a really nice team here in Hinthaara.

One of the children asked me, “Why are you a cleaner, isn’t it a hard job?” I told him that I like it when it is clean, so I enjoy this job. The work is not too hard when you have enough time reserved for it, and there’s a good system and routine. With these, I can do the job well and don’t have to stress or rush too much.
I come from Thailand but have lived in Finland for over 20 years. I have worked a lot of different jobs, in many different places, from strawberry farms to lunch restaurants. I have studied hairdressing and cookery in Thailand, and I have a Finnish degree in facility management. I would like to continue in this job until retirement!
Porvoo Food and Cleaning Services is a flexible and supportive employer. Earlier, I had to take time off from work because of my personal life. But I have been welcome back when it was possible.
I have been encouraged to learn the Finnish language. When I mentioned to my supervisor that I would like to learn more Finnish, they helped me by finding suitable courses.
