Ideas made real for young people – six proposals to be implemented

This year, Porvoo’s participatory budgeting focuses on young people. Voting closed on 26 April, and as a result, six ideas will be implemented during 2026. The selected ideas include purchases for schools and youth centres, as well as a large concert.

A total of 147 proposals were submitted during the ideation phase in February. Of these, 21 were selected to the voting phase, and the six with the most votes will proceed to implementation.

In the voting, each participant had a budget of 50 000 euros available, which could be distributed across several different ideas. Nearly 800 voters took part this year, and approximately 2,500 votes were cast in total. The votes were distributed widely, and all proposals received support.

The idea that received the most votes was to allocate 2 000 euros to each youth centre. The most expensive idea to be implemented is ‘A big concert in Porvoo,’ which placed sixth in the voting. The original cost estimate was 30 000 euros, but after the proposals that received more votes had been allocated their budgets, 23 040 euros remained for the concert. Within this budget, the concert will be organised at the Art Factory in August as part of the River Carnival.

– The voting results show that there is a wide range of wishes aimed at young people. Implementation planning starts now, and updates on progress will be provided throughout the year, says Participation Coordinator Maija Eklöf.

Ideas to be implemented during 2026, including cost estimates and number of votes:

  • 2 000 euros for each youth centre – 6 000 euros in total (231 votes)
  • Car simulator for the Zentra youth centre – 3 040 euros (208 votes)
  • Table tennis tables for lower and upper secondary schools – 11 900 euros (192 votes)
  • Sofas for student use at Pääskytien koulu – 3 000 euros (187 votes)
  • Sofas for Lyceiparkens skola – 3 000 euros (183 votes)
  • A big concert in Porvoo – 23 040 euros (174 votes)
