Interlibrary loans

Always check the availability of the material you need first in the Helle online library. You can order material that is not available in the collections of the Porvoo City Library or other Helle libraries.

An interlibrary loan order can be placed by any person with a card to Porvoo City Library and borrowing rights. Interlibrary loans for patrons under 15 years of age are ordered under their parent’s/guardian’s name, because the parent/guardian is responsible for them.

Place an interlibrary loan order via your own library or use the order form (to fill in the form, you have to be logged in to the Helle online library)

You can also submit an interlibrary loan request by email to kaukopalvelu@porvoo.fi. Phone requests are not accepted. The order can also be submitted to the library’s customer service desk.

• Interlibrary loans from The National Repository Library and public libraries (city libraries) cost €6/item.
• Interlibrary loans from other libraries (e.g. higher education libraries such as the University of Helsinki Library) cost €12/item.
• Article copies are charged according to actual costs.
• Interlibrary loans from foreign libraries are charged according to actual costs.
• Patrons are charged for interlibrary loans they fail to collect.

The aim is always to order the materials so that they arrive as soon as possible. Shipments arrive by mail.

Material ordered as an interlibrary loan usually arrives within two weeks, unless the material is on loan in the sending library or there are holds on it. If an interlibrary loan request goes to the booking queue, it may take several weeks or even months for the material to arrive.

Interlibrary loans always follow the loan periods and other loan terms set by the library sending the loan. Not all material may be taken home.

Interlibrary loans can be renewed. Renewal can be requested via an interlibrary loan form (to fill in the form, you have to be logged in to the Helle online library)

Most university libraries only lend course books to their own students. If you order course books as interlibrary loans, please state the name of the university you attend on the order form.
